Mystery Dive Explained Part II

A little more information on the dive. The aquaculture cages are in about 130 feet of water. Several species can be found associated with these cages including sharks (mainly sandbar sharks), kahala (amberjacks), and a variety of smaller fishes. Below are some examples:

The receiver is mounted on one of the mooring lines for the cages. In addition to recovering the data stored in the receivers, the batteries in the receivers need to be changed periodically to ensure that they are continuously listening for tagged animals. The receiver also has a hydrophone which allows it to 'listen' for tagged animals. Every couple of months we retrieve our receivers to get our data.
