Aloha,

Hopefully you all had a great Mother’s Day weekend.

Many thanks to Hazel, Ruth, John and Sal for leading tours this week, Joe for helping set up the lab and Judith for the animal care.

COMING UP! Volunteer Training/Enrichment: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, May 18, 20 (bring your dinner if you wish) and Saturday morning, 9:00 am – Noon, May 22nd (bring your own lunch for after if you would like).

In the evenings we will cover some basic biology, and with the new microscopes and classroom it will be a real treat. We can use the big screen.

We will start with the invertebrates, where we will get a look at live zooxanthellae. We will have a close look at the hermit crabs and the suction feet and pincers of the sea urchins. Thursday we will pick up with a review of reef fish and sharks, and then go from there. Saturday is still open, but we will see where we are at with the current tour – if there are things to add or clarify.

Take a look at the schedule and see what volunteer tours are open, then let me know if you will be attending the training sessions.

Hope you had a great Mother’s Day, remember, if you were a reef fish, you would have been just one of thousands of eggs released to the water column. No parental care and a very very slight chance of survival to adulthood (actually I seem to recall my own parents suggesting that I was stretching my chances at times).

More tomorrow on other opportunities coming up.

Mahalo,

Mark
