On a non-shark tack, check out Brian Bowan's lab work on moray eels. Morays have a very large and unusual planktonic stage, the
leptocephalus larvae. Think 3" long totally transparent drifting eel stage.
As a result of this, although the adults may only move short distances on the reef for their entire life, the morays from Hawaii to Australia are still linked.
