New Black Tip Pups

Just yesterday I noticed a very new arrival swimming in the quarantine pond with the hammerhead pups, a tiny black tip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus).  Shortly thereafter, another pup was discovered in the adjacent lagoon where the adult black tips reside.  It is possible that these pups are the offspring of the neighboring adult black tips.  A paternity test would be required to conclusively establish if these two sharks swam into the enclosure, or if they are captive bred.

In the mean time, we will do some additional digging and will be back next week with more information about these two new additions to HIMB.
